ULI Philadelphia Seeks Member Volunteers to Advise Temple University Student Group Research on Equity in Transportation Infrastructure Investment 

ULI Philadelphia is partnering with the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC), to advise graduate student teams from Temple University exploring the impact of major transportation projects on communities of Black, Indigenous, and/or People of Color in the Pennsylvania Counties of Greater Philadelphia. Specific transportation projects for analysis may include: 
  • Vine Street Expressway
  • The Blue Route (I-476)
  • West Market El reconstruction
  • Pottstown Expressway (US-422)
  • Schuylkill River Trail
  • The Direct Connection (I-295/I-76/Rt 42)
  • PATCO 
  • NJ 29 and the Lamberton Tunnel   

ULI Philadelphia's participation is made possible through support from ULI's Curtis Infrastructure Initiative whose mission is to identify and promote infrastructure solutions that make cities more equitable, resilient, and enhance long-term community value. This work will also contribute to ULI Philadelphia's commitment to developing a program of work, including research, on the history of systemic racism, as detailed in our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Framework for Action.

The goal of the student research teams is to produce reports that understand the impacts of past investments and to produce recommendations that achieve more equitable outcomes in transportation planning and implementation in the future.

ULI Philadelphia is seeking a group of members to advise students during their research. Specific duties would include: 
  • Participating in a virtual advising session on Thursday, March 25 from 1:00 – 2:30 pm, to listen to students’ progress and provide feedback;
  • Providing feedback following that initial advising session on an as needed basis;
  • Attending a final presentation of findings at a to be scheduled time in Spring 2021. 

Eligibility for this volunteer opportunity includes:
  • Being a current member of ULI;
  • Committing to the ULI Mission and Code of Ethics;
  • Willingness to share findings with networks and other ULI councils.
